Biography

Lauren Byers, MD, is a board-certified medical oncology physician and an Associate Professor in the Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Dr Byers serves on the Small Cell Lung Cancer Progress Working Group of the National Cancer Institute and the External Scientific Advisory Board at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, the American Association of Cancer Research, and the American Head and Neck Society.

She has received multiple awards for her leadership in thoracic oncology including the Hope Award from the Rexanna Foundation (2017), the Women Leading the Way Award from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (2013), the Sidney Kimmel Scholars Award from The Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research (2013), the Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award from the National Cancer Institute (2013), and the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (2008).

Dr Byers serves as Editor for Frontiers in Non-Coding RNA and is a journal reviewer for at least 19 peer-reviewed journals. She has authored or coauthored at least 85 peer-reviewed journal articles, at least 2 books, and at least 8 book chapters. Dr Byers’ clinical research focus includes thoracic oncology and lung cancer, particularly small cell lung cancer.
