Biography

Monica Malec, MD, FAAHPM, is a board-certified geriatric and palliative care physician who currently serves as Associate Professor and Director of Palliative Medicine Clinical Programs in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.

A respected member of the hospice and palliative medicine community, Dr Malec is Chair of the Palliative Care/Anesthesia subcommittee, Chair of the Pain Stewardship committee, and Chair of the Clinical Competency committee (Palliative Medicine Fellowship) at the University of Chicago. She is an active member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Dr Malec has authored or coauthored at least 8 peer-reviewed journal articles and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for Current Medical Research and Opinion. Her clinical research focus includes hospice and palliative medicine.
